NEWS FROM AFRICA
New World Ministries (NWM) is inviting you to read this news update and as you do so, to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit and what He has to say to you.
NWM is serving in two main Countries in Africa: Nigeria and Congo DRC.
In Nigeria, the centre of our work is in Benue State, located in the “Middle Belt” of the country where the rain forest gives way to dry grasslands.
Work began here in 2003, centred on Gbinde, about 100km south of the State capital of Makurdi. A church has been planted among the Tiv people and guided by NWM pastors and evangelists. This church will be handed over to the administration of the indigenous people at a Commissioning Service on February 18th. 2012. The new church leaders have been undergoing special training for the last 6 months, and we thank God for them. From Gbinde, other villages around have been contacted and are showing an interest in the gospel.
Service is also in progress further south in Oju Local Government area of the State. In this area, widows and orphan children are greatly in need, and as we work to relieve their condition by training and initial support for small scale enterprises, so they are also hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ. A NWM farm project is taking off in the next planting season and will provide some additional employment opportunities.
Time is also being taken to encourage and offer training to existing churches so that they invest more time and energy in mission activities in the local area and beyond.
A completely different environment is found in the extreme south of the same Oju LGA, where a range of hills and mountains has so far been a hindrance to missionary work. Much of the area is too steep and rocky for vehicle access, and movement around is further restricted in the wet season. Villages exist in poverty and are open to the gospel message we are bringing.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo NWM activities are located on the outskirts of Kinshasa where a young church has been planted. Most of the congregation is youths and young adults. Poverty is a common factor, but nevertheless members show a thirst for the Gospel.
The NWM mission fields in Africa and elsewhere are in need of short and long term personnel who are committed to spreading the true gospel of Jesus Christ in obedience to the Great Commission. These people are “go-ers” but their success also depends on “senders” who provide for their needs as the Lord leads. Is the Lord calling you to fill either of these roles? We provide the necessary training. Please contact us on:
